Fake Tan Test: SunBelievable TAN ME Self Tan Mousse

Jordan McDowell is not green with envy over this tanning product

Fake Tan Test: SunBelievable TAN ME Self Tan Mousse

Tanning product:

SunBelievable TAN ME Self Tan Mousse

Price:

£30 per 200ml with free Mitt. Available at John Lewis, QVC and online at www.sun-believable.com

Consistency:

Sunbelievable 019Green coloured mousseA product somewhere between a mousse and an accident. A foamy mousse that is a little too wet and thus rather comical to apply. The product is applied via a mitt (a difficult mitt to use, but vital as the product stains immediately upon contact) and smoothed on like one would ice a cake.

Although, unlike an iced cake, the immediate result looks like a patchy green mess. It was at this point that, during my first attempt with the product, I had a hissy fit over Twitter before realising that this tan isn’t an instant product and actually needs to be slept in or left for at least four hours. Not good when I had dinner reservations, but still, note to self: always read the label.

Hair factor:

This product isn’t a fan of body hair. As the mousse is a little more wet than expected, it can drown hair and cause it to stick to the skin which leaves a slightly uneven finish once washed off.

Streak factor:

Img_8252Stained knucklesDespite the questionable shade of mottled brown the tan leaves on your skin for four hours, the end result is more positive and streak-free. A dark brown colour is the end result, achieved by the fact that the green tinge of the product diminishes any red or orange tints.

However, whilst trying to avoid a Tango orange shade SunBelievable presents users with a skin colour no amount of sunbathing would achieve. Sunbelieveable? Exactly.

Concerning the hands, the advised process of application involved rubbing the back of one’s hands together whilst slowly smearing tan around. This means that total coverage is not an easy thing to master. Thus tanned knuckles will meet pale fingers. C’est la vie.

Aroma:

A good old fashioned smelly product. That soggy biscuit smell will remain long after washing it off. Mind you, if you’re a veteran of fake tan, like myself, you’ll have already become accustom to this sunkissed stench.

Longevity:

B4aftaBefore and afterMy first application if you remember, was before a dinner reservation and my attempts to wash it off were futile. SunBelievable will ink your skin for the long haul. Great then, for those in search of a perma-tan. Roughly a week of tan can be expected, with care and moisturising.

Tan out of ten?

A tricky product with hit-and-miss results, none of which were anything resembling a convincing fake tan on me unfortunately. Those with a naturally darker complexion may benefit more from this deeper tan...
