Summer Hair Trends For Less

Put your hair in the hands of the experts at Trevor Sorbie this summer

Published on June 9th 2011.

Summer Hair Trends For Less

“THIS season is all about extremes, from big volume and movement to neat minimalism” multi-award winning hairdresser Trevor Sorbie tells us.

What springs to mind for those of us who depend on DIY hair reinvention is that ‘dragged through a bush backwards’ or ‘dragged through an oil slick forwards’ look. Neither of which are this season, or any season for that matter.

Beehive 2.jpgWe say leave it to the experts to interpret, and then at least you’ve got something to work with when you do try at home. As Trevor added: “Our job is to interpret

and tailor these directions to suit their hair and their lifestyles and, of course, to recommend the best techniques and products to recreate the look themselves.”

To that end, Trevor Sorbie has teamed up with his Artistic Team to present this season’s most important hair trends in an easy to adapt way. The results are nothing short of gorgeous...

It’s a curl thing

012 055 RGB copy.jpgWant a modern take on Seventies chic? Going big and bouncy is the key and there’s a version to suit every face shape according to the team at Trevor Sorbie, Manchester. There’s a variety of curls to choose from including crimped, textured or big loose waves and even the most poker straight hair can be transformed with the right guidance. Setting your chosen curls is key and Trevor Sorbie recommends Trevor Sorbie Professional Beautifully Moisturised Moisture Barrier Hairspray to stop your finished look dropping out – a solution to common bugbear for many of us who may have spent time curling with a curling tongue only to see the results vanish within the hour. For inspiration

Hippy-Luxe

More Seventies (the era has dominated catwalks for ss11) but this time it look effortless and more tame than the aforementioned curls. “It’s still referencing Seventies volume, but in a more relaxed, boho way,” explains Trevor. Look to Gianfranco Ferre, N21 and Burberry Prorsum for how to wear it well: the keys to recreating it are nothing more complex than a centre parting and hair that’s in great, glossy condition. Trevor Sorbie Professional Beautifully Straightened High Shine Spray will complete the look.

Surf style

04 026 copy.jpgGet ocean-styled waves without looking like you’ve just been washed up to shore. Yes - it is possible. It’s about enhancing your natural texture and highlights rather than over-styling or obvious colour: texturising sprays and subtle highlights that give a realistic sun-touched effect are the cornerstones of this Sienna Miller look. Tousled waves and sun-kissed colour were used on the catwalks of Pucci, Proenza Schouler, Bottega Venetta and Michael Kors for this summer.

Sleek and low

This look was seen on every catwalk from Calvin Klein to Chloe and unlike the high volume trend, should be easy to create, even on a bad hair day. Think Gwyneth Paltrow when she collected her Oscar. She may have lost it, but her hair stayed firmly slicked back and in place. “It’s bold but extremely flattering and chic” says Trevor.

If you’d like to be shown how to create any of these catwalk-copied looks at home as well as update your current cut and inject some bright or bold colour to your look for summer, visit Trevor Sorbie, Manchester. The Spring Gardens salon is currently offering a hair-raising 50 per cent off ALL colour services. That includes highlights semi-permanent, root retouch, creative colouring, colour correction and colour change. For more information, please click here.
