Vita Coco: an anti-ageing drink?

Madonna’s gone nuts for this new health drink…I just can’t get enough of Vita Coco

Vita Coco: an anti-ageing drink?

Both milk and water are good for our health, but you’ll rarely hear about what could be described as a healthy combination of the two with extra benefits – coconut water.

The juice comes from the centre of the green coconut which is normally only sold in specialist supermarkets and requires the strength of a lumberjack to crack open. That’s why a drinks company has kindly done it for us and packaged it up into handy cartons.

It’s a very acquired taste and can be a bit alarming at first as it looks like water but the consistency is more like that of milk. However, it’s safe to say that if you like the taste of coconuts you will most likely enjoy it.

It’s also likely to be enjoyed by those who want to look after their skin and stay fit. Vita Coco is fast becoming a health trick of the trade. Madonna is said to drink one a day after workouts and is a fan of the beauty and body boost it offers.

Of the people who tried it in the Confidential office, it was those who enjoy exercise such as running who were most intrigued. “It’s got lots of potassium like bananas but it isn’t full of carbs which is good,” said one dedicated runner.

As well as potassium, Vita Coco contains magnesium, phosphorous, sodium and calcium, no fat and no cholesterol. During exercise it can help to replenish your body’s fluids and it helps to detoxify and boost your immune system. Coconut water also helps to promote anti-ageing by supporting the body in carrying essential nutrients and oxygen to the skin cells.

Oh come on, get a grip!! I find this quite offensive....as if Coconut water is the 'new thing' just because Madonna(and don't get me wrong, I'm a fan, but come on!!) is dating a Brazilian and has 'discovered' it herself now, doesn't mean its a 'new thing', in Brazil we have been drinking it for EVER, you find it everywhere on the beach it's very cheap you can get it everywhere, even for free it grows everywhere, just like bananas, and by the way, you don't have to have the "strength of a lumberjack" to open it, you just need to have the right knife and know how to do it, that's all, anyone can open a coconut. Coconut water has been known for its properties for centuries and in hot countries everyone knows how important it is to avoid dehydration....Vita coco is not the first and will not be the last to sell it in a carton and to be honest with you it tastes nothing like the real thing!(if you've been to any of the Chinese cash and carries you must have seen it b4 as well) I advise to go to Brazil, have some proper coconut water on the beach, then you get them to open it in half for you and you can eat the delicious flash, with a handy bit of the skin cut into a 'spoonish' shape....come on, just because something becomes 'cool' to some celebs doesn't mean they discover the wheel....come on now, this is like the whole ACAI thing all over again....;-)

Oh, that's me again, the 'anonymous' comment up there. By the way, the Brazilian stall on the arndale food market has been selling the actual coconut ready to just have a straw inserted quite cheap for ages...a bit of research goes a long way...don't u think?
