When Werther's got rid of good old granddad from their marketing campaign, it left a bad taste in some people's mouths. There's no danger of that happening with the latest addition to the Werther's family: Werther’s Original Chocolate.
Just like their caramel flavoured ancestors, they come wrapped in the signature golden foil, like a miniature gift. But unlike the originals, the chocolate versions have a creamy chocolate fudge taste that can be likened to a cross between Lindt and a churned up Rolo with undertones of that very distinct Werther’s taste.
The only negative thing about the chocolate Werther’s is that they don’t last as long as the original type. You can’t store them in your cheek for half an hour, as the chocolate melts quickly. So instead you work your way through an entire 125g packet in the same amount of time. We’d like to tell you how many calories that amounts to but those people at Werther’s aren’t stupid. They don’t supply much information on the chocolates' nutritional value on the packets – probably because there isn’t any. Oh well – Granddad would still be proud.
Werther’s Original Chocolate is currently on offer in Tesco at 99p for a 125g packet.
