MAKING their first footprints after the Second World War, brothel creepers were originally for the protection of soldiers, later gaining popularity among men in the late 50s (Teddy Boys and rockabillies) and again during the 70s punk era.

More recently, having been seen on the likes of Rihanna, they are once again making an unexpected and global comeback. There’s currently a waiting list for the Prada reincarnation.
With single, double and even triple crepe sole options, rounded or pointed toes and featuring leopard print hair, studs or ‘Tipex’ graffiti as embellishment, these shoes throw the idea of sensible footwear out of the window.
But that doesn’t mean they’re not hard wearing. This is a shoe that’s reasonably priced and lasts a lifetime – a bit like a Dr Marten original. The tractor tyre thick sole gives the height of a heel but the feeling of a flat.
Evidently not for all tastes and perhaps impractical much of the time, these classic shoes are expected to make a big mark on the fashion industry in seasons to come. Just don’t try and team them with your office attire. You’re not Rihanna.
