Jonathan Aston ‘On Show’

The new collection from Britain’s most daring hosiery brand will bring out the showgirl in you

BEFORE 1965, tights were plain and opaque. Ladies that wanted to be wild and rebellious opted for brown or navy tights, and the unconventional flapper would be seen with the skin-coloured version. That changed in 1965 when Ralph Salem took charge at a Leicester knitting factory and designed the first fashion hosiery.

Ever since, his label, under name of Jonathan Aston, has been a huge success. He has dressed some of the most famous legs throughout history, including Jean Shrimpton, Twiggy and Diane Kruger. For more than 40 years, the label has been synonymous with style, quality and confidence, and the continuance of success for Jonathan Aston must be sought in their understanding of the female figure. Their fine detailing, retro prints and timeless appeal make every pair of tights into a classic.

The label’s A/W2011 collection, On Show, is now available at Selfridges and online. The Las Vegas inspired line features six sets of tights, all equally suggestive and seductive with a hinge of retro Vegas rock ’n’ roll glamour.

The eye is immediately drawn to the Tuxedo tights, opaque with black frontal and back lining and, as a cherry on top, a bow on the upper-thigh. They ooze glamour, paired with a foxy, modern edge. The Casino tights have been seen on Katy B, and like her, they are edgy, contemporary and daring; the stripes remind you of a fashionable zebra in distress.

The sexy mid-thigh hold ups – Poker – hold a surprise on the back, where the four playing card suits are drawn. The skin-coloured Black Jack set also showcases the four suits, but they are wildly thrown all over. Mock suspender tights, Roulette, have a unique design from toe to knee, representing roulette chips.

The vintage glamour prints of the Jonathan Aston A/W2011 collection are equally wearable for a stylish day at the office or a sexy night out on the town. They are never too revealing and give an elegant spin to every outfit.
