Biba, the iconic London label from the 1960s and 1970s, is opening a new boutique at House of Fraser, Deansgate this week. And they're putting on a launch night party for shoppers to attend.
Biba was the brand which set in motion a fashion following like no other of its time, defining the style of a generation.
At the event, the personal shopping team and a guest stylist will take you through the key looks for the autumn/winter season. There will be make-up demonstrations from MAC, eyelash promotions from Shavata, complimentary drinks, live music and Biba inspired cupcakes. It takes place at the new Biba Boutique at House of Fraser (formerly Kendals) on Thursday 9 September, from 6pm. The first trends presentation will take place at 6.45pm.
The collection of women’s apparel, accessories and jewellery takes inspiration from the original Biba themes of 1930s Hollywood glamour, synonymous with signature prints, maxi dresses and mannish tailoring.
Biba was the brand which set in motion a fashion following like no other of its time, defining the style of a generation. The autumn/winter 2010 collection is designed with an eclectic sensibility that underpins the original Biba ethos of creating affordable pieces with a fashion forward style. New Biba has taken a huge leap forward with the collection reflecting the current trends of today’s fashion landscape.
The new design team have re-visioned the creativity and imagination of the original collections, subtly referencing the archive of Biba but focusing on the new vision and direction of the brand.
Highlights from the collection include the maxi dress, a true signature of Biba but one that has been updated. The first collection sees various reimaged archival prints in Tiger, Leopard, Butterfly, and a graphic inspired Lilly floral print. Other key dresses include a sleek long-sleeve black velvet with fine cuff button detail, and opulent layered chiffon styles in light antique golds with delicate embellishment.
Everyday wardrobe essentials include five key denim offerings in styles such as the Grace skinny fit, Ava slim flare and the Elle bootcut. Other highlights include modern suit tailoring with high-waisted exaggerated wide leg trousers, jackets with a considered mixing of fabrics, and day-to-evening transitional basics in the form of short dresses, blouses and distinctive jerseywear.
Outerwear pieces range from full-length animal print coats to shorter jackets with echoes of military design and brushed gold metal hardware.
The collection will be exclusive to House of Fraser and is available in 35 stores nationwide and online.
The collection launches in Manchester on Thursday 9 September. Everyone is invited to the launch party. It takes place on Thursday 9 September from 6pm at the the Biba Boutique, House of Fraser, Deansgate.
