THE future of fashion will be vintage, if these brands have it their way.
As Body Confidential writer Sophia Aiello wrote in her article about vintage shopping in Manchester earlier this year (click here), ‘Vintage is even the inspiration of many new designs. The shabby-chic look has never been more fashionable.’
North West vintage stockists Vibrant Vintage, History’s Attic, We Love Vintage, Pop Boutique and Junk Shop joined forces last night to fly the flag for vintage shopping in the UK.
The Retro Fashion Show was held at the Pin-Up Bowling Lanes in Spinningfields, Manchester. The temporary 50s-inspired venue was the perfect setting with its retro vibe and many attendees got into the spirit by dressing up in vintage clothes themselves. You can view the audience gallery at the bottom of this article.
The Brands
Vibrant Vintage by Victoria Claire were first on the catwalk with arguably the best dress of the night. The red and black silhouette dress looked like it had been plucked from Mad Men actress Christina Hendricks' wardrobe. Vibrant Vintage can be found at Westhoughton Market and other markets. History’s Attic is an online boutique founded by Claire Kenyon. The vintage venture started life on eBay and has now grown to offer a full range of vintage finds from clothing and accessories to jewellery and homeware. Classic black catsuits are all over the high street at the moment, so it was good to see an original in the show. Visit www.historysattic.co.uk

We Love Vintage is the brainchild of vintage junkie Sam Franks. We featured Sam on Body Confidential back in March, when she set up shop at Confidential HQ for the day. Click here to read about it. Sam’s collection was without a doubt the most glamourous of the night with dresses such as this nude, satin 70s maxi dress with long sleeves. Now that's va-va-voom. Visit www.we-love-vintage.com

Pop Boutique's origins are in Manchester, with their first store opening in Oldham Street in 1994, following over ten years of running vintage shops and supplying others with great vintage items. As expected, there were lots of cutsie Christmas cardigans in their section of the show. Visit www.pop-boutique.com

Junk Shop is another vintage heavy weight in Manchester. As we reported back in 2007 'Junk don’t pander to the whimsical nature of fashion. They feature reworked vintage clothing, screen printed urban wear, retro bags, badges, jewellery, belts and cards.' They still have the same ethos tpday and thus their showcase featured plenty of weird and wonderful floral numbers such as this one below. Visit www.junkshopuk.com
