EARLIER this year we helped Esquire with their search to find Britain’s best dressed man (see here) and it so happens they found their man in Liverpool.
Dan Wood, a 22-year-old architect, is officially the most stylish man in the UK after winning Esquire’s Best-Dressed Real Man 2011 competition.
“It’s become an addiction – getting shirts adjusted, jackets altered. But my tailor, Richie, is just so good."
Wood pipped two London gents to the post: 32-year-old IT consultant Shaka Maidoh, who came second, and 27-year-old bespoke consultant Aaron Dash, who won third place. The competition received hundreds of entries nationwide.

The judges including sartorial legend Sir Paul Smith, award-winning designer Patrick Grant, face of Burberry Douglas Booth, my-wardrobe.com buying and merchandising director Luisa de Paula, MTV presenter and fashion journalist Louise Roe, fashion blogger Steve Salter and Esquire editor Alex Bilmes.
Dan will be crowned Britain’s Best-Dressed Real Man 2011 at an exclusive VIP event held at London’s May Fair Hotel, hosted by Esquire and my-wardrobe.com this week.
Despite being aged only 22, the judges agreed Wood has a timeless sense of style. He admits he cares about clothes in a way that is infectious, saying: “It’s become an addiction – getting shirts adjusted, jackets altered. But my tailor, Richie, is just so good.
“I enjoy a modern, slimmer cut. But I’m not massively swayed by fashion. I go for classic things that in 10, 20, 30 years will hopefully look good.”

As winner he will receive a prize worth £25,000, including £20,000 to spend at my-wardrobe.com (the equivalent of a brand new outfit every fortnight for a year), a Longines watch, a Niven & Joshua hamper, a night in a lavish suite, courtesy of the May Fair Hotel and he will appear on a special-edition cover of the Esquire October issue. Both runner’s up will receive a Longines watch and a framed picture of their Esquire shoot.
Esquire Editor Alex Bilmes said: “Having searched the country’s leading cities, and been sent hundreds of entries, it was a difficult task to choose a winner. But Dan’s flair, inventiveness and ability to play around with the rules of menswear caught the judges’ eyes. That and the confidence with which he carries off his look.”
Buying and Merchandising Director of my-wardrobe.com, Luisa De Paula says: “We’re proud to announce Dan Wood from Liverpool as the winner of Britain’s Best-Dressed Real Man 2011. The competition was extremely tough with so many stylish entrants, but Dan’s smart approach reflected a truly British style of dressing. His look was seen throughout the search, but his classic appeal was a cut above the rest.”
