Yasmin Le Bon For Mungo & Maud

From Pucci to pooches: The British veteran model is launching a fashion range especially for dog-walkers

Yasmin Le Bon For Mungo & Maud

SHE'S BEEN a favorite of designers from Azzedine Alaïa to Karl Lagerfeld to Versace. She’s been photographed by the likes of Patrick Demarchelier and Arthur Elgort, and her face has graced the covers of over 400 magazines.

But after 27 years in the business Yasmin Le Bon has no plans to retire, and why would she? As she joins forces with Mungo & Maud to create a limited edition capsule collection of dog walking accessories, Yasmin has got the pet outfitting market at her fingertips.

For the fashion conscious dog walker, carrying poo in plastic just isn’t going to cut it anymore.

As any worthy fashion buff knows, Yasmin is an avid dog fan and owner of three dogs. Presumably sick of embarking on her daily dog walks armed with only an ordinary handbag and a few supermarkets plastics tucked into the front pocket, Yasmin has answered the call of all super chic dog owners out there and designed (given permission to put her name to) a new range of dog walking paraphernalia.

The collection includes the Italianate woven and leather ‘Alba’ collar and lead, the sporty ‘Beetle Coat’ and the chic, canvas and leather ‘Sling Bag’, designed to carry all you might need when walking your dog.

Yasmin says: “I have been a fan of Mungo & Maud right from the beginning. I can remember visiting the Elizabeth Street store when it first opened and found myself outside, having bought something, but not actually owning a dog! I am crazy in love with my dogs, so the opportunity to design for them with Mungo & Maud was completely irresistible to me.”

Mungo & Maud has been open since May 2005 when husband and wife team Michael and Nicola Sacher founded the edgy new concept in dog and cat stores with the aim of sourcing and creating elegant (expensive), well-designed (finding solutions to problems that don’t exist) accessories to complement the contemporary home (of people with more money than sense).

To give you an idea of what that means, here’s a few of our favorite Mungo & Maud Products:

Poop Pouch ‘Leaf’ in Chocolate (£45)

‘Storing your dog's poop bags just became a stylish affair.’

For the fashion conscious dog walker, carrying poo in plastic just isn’t going to cut it anymore. Not when the Poop Pooch ‘Leaf’ is made from a buttery soft leather and replete with a loop for attaching to a lead. Even if you ignored the fact that is looks exactly like dog poo itself, you’re going to have to be pretty into the brown stuff to part with £45 for it.

Mungo & Maud "Petite Amande" Dog Fragrance (£44)

‘Delicate notes of French blackcurrant, Tunisian neroli, mimosa and violet leaf on a base of sweet vanilla bourbon with a little almond.’

Your dog will be the envy of the park with just a sprinkle of this every morning. A touch pricey at £44 but when you take into account that it can be used on humans too, it’s really not that bad at all…

Beach Bag (£100)

‘A must have for the stylish traveler, this cotton beach bag with leather handles and shoulder strap is the perfect accessory for all your animal essentials.’

A nice little item this. Looks great in ‘Safari’, a good size and some rather stylish spring-loaded clips hold the leather shoulder straps in place. Its most pleasing feature though, is that it’s got absolutely nothing to do with dogs.

The Yasmin Le Bon range launches in October and is available online and in store. For those who simply can’t wait that long though, a wide range of dog and cat accessories are available from www.mungoandmaud.com

The question still begs: why would Yasmin Le Bon get involved in this? Is she really that into her pets? Yasmin must think she is one of those models that is only getting better with age. A bit like Kate Moss, but with more dog poo.
