Keep Fit & Pink day 2010

Actress and breast cancer survivor, Sally Dynevor, was joined by Coronation Street co-star Kym Marsh and nearly 1,000 supporters at The Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention Appeal’s Keep Fit & Pink Day on Sunday, 6 June.

One in ten women in the UK will develop breast cancer; last year I was here as a patron of Genesis, this year I’m here as the one in ten. The Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention Appeal is the UK’s only charity dedicated to the prevention of breast cancer.

Sally, who plays Sally Webster in Coronation Street, made her first public appearance since her own breast cancer treatment at the event, where she was joined by Kym, Dr Chris Steele, the family GP from This Morning, Charlie Walduck, ‘Fat Farwell Diet’ champion and the newly crowned Miss Manchester, Elicia Davis.

The stars assembled on the starting line of the charity’s fourth annual 10km walk at Spinningfields in Manchester’s city centre. Sally led the near 1,000 strong crowd through the streets of Manchester after giving an emotional speech where she thanked the charity for all its support.

Sally said: “One in ten women in the UK will develop breast cancer; last year I was here as a patron of Genesis, this year I’m here as the one in ten. The Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention Appeal is the UK’s only charity dedicated to the prevention of breast cancer. I’d like to say thank you to them for the wonderful work they do, and to everyone for coming along and supporting us here today.”

Sponsorship from the event is set to raise almost £50,000 for The Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention Appeal, and forms part of the charity’s wider ‘Keep Fit & Pink’ campaign. The campaign promotes the benefits of healthy living for the prevention of breast cancer.

The Genesis Appeal has helped to fund the Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention Centre, which is Europe’s first ever, purpose built centre of its kind. The £14 million state-of-the-art project – based at Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester, brings together internationally recognised medical experts and houses pioneering work into diagnosis, education and research into the prevention and treatment of breast cancer.
