MOST folk wait until the Christmas and New Year party season is out of the way before embarking on a fitness regime. Personally, however, I think now is one of the best times of the year to get moving... especially running.
For those of you who like an aesthetically ‘good-looking’ shoe, these should fit the bill perfectly.
There’s something to be said for shuffling down the street through autumn leaves, huffing and puffing under the guise of darkness. No one can see your flushed beetroot features and wobbly bits bouncing about under extra layers of clothing. Unfortunately, though, it also makes it harder for motorists to spot you, so do take extra care: wear a high visibility reflective vest and LED armbands.
Anyway, as I’m training for a spring marathon, Nike sent me some trainers and a sports bra to road-test.
Nike Pro Victory Compression Sports Bra
When it comes to sports bras, I need all the help I can get. Even at my leanest, most marathon meanest, I remain well endowed on the boob front. And as bras ain’t cheap, this is the one item of sports attire of which I’m most critical (after trainers).
Step forward Nike’s Pro Victory Compression Sports Bra (£22). Compression being the operative word, I smuggled my boobs into the largest size they offered and took off down the trail.
Better suited for smaller cups (A, B, C), it doesn’t hold you in place as snug as, say, an underwired offering. In fact, I wouldn’t recommend this bra for runners (unless you have a small cup and require little support) or bountiful breasted ladies. Its minimalist design, however, and DRI-FIT fabric is perfect for cardio classes, gym workouts, and cycling. I must also mention that these bras come up a tad small, so do bear that in mind especially when ordering online.
Nike Lunarglide+ 3 Women's Running Shoes
Nike’s Lunarglide+ 3’s (£85) are best for mild to moderate overpronators (I’m a moderate overpronator). I’ll be honest – I’m a diehard Brooks Adrenaline GTS gal. They’ve happily seen me through several thousand miles of running. So whenever I’m given a new pair of trainers to trial, I’m always a bit suspicious. But these weren’t bad at all.
My shins played up halfway through my 10K (perhaps owing to less cushioning than I’m used to), but overall these made for a comfortable run. Lightweight with a snug, secure fit, they gave a smooth ride. They are a narrow fit though, so if you like plenty of room, especially upfront, steer clear. But for those of you who like an aesthetically ‘good-looking’ shoe, these should fit the bill perfectly.
