Roberto Cavalli For Ciclotte Collection

Genius collaboration or weird 'lifestyle expression'?

Roberto Cavalli For Ciclotte Collection

ROBERTO Cavalli has collaborated with Italian brand Ciclotte to add his own designer influence on the Ciclotte exercise bike. Some critics are calling it a ‘contemporary living project’, but the limited edition collection is peculiar in its appearance, making us question the practical and artistic purpose of it. With its extreme flair, this designer object looks more suited to a museum than a home.

The design has been labelled many times as a ‘fitness tool’, ‘furnishing accessory’ and a ‘lifestyle expression’. (Whatever that means.)

Cavalli has certainly left his mark on Ciclotte’s exercise bikes, incorporating the well-known signature animal prints and Cavalli colours. With the 2012 Olympics rapidly approaching, this collaboration couldn’t have come at a better time. It is definitely a different approach to what we’ve seen the past from Cavalli, and perhaps an approach to question. After all, Cavalli is haled as a fashion genius, specifically in his previous collection, ‘designer wear for rich pooches’. Furthermore, the new sporty venture does seem out of the blue considering his love to dress women, and his famous fashion collections that have hit the catwalks over the years. All that considered, this new collaboration is certainly a surprising one.

In the world of Cavalli, luxury is a lifestyle that remains untouched - even when it comes to an exercise bike. The bike is meant to interact freely within the design of one’s home. The design has been labelled many times as a ‘fitness tool’, ‘furnishing accessory’ and a ‘lifestyle expression’. (Whatever that means.) It incorporates top quality material such as, carbon, steel and fibreglass, and the Cavalli influence definitely adds the much needed style element. Essentially, one large wheel, a seat and handlebars that resemble bunny ears describes the bike design. This unexpected Cavalli-Luca Schieppati collaboration definitely brings to mind the phrase ‘confusingly contemporary’ to say the least.

Within the ‘Roberto Cavalli for Ciclotte’ collection, there are the six different finishes on offer: fushsia carbon fibre with alcantara, Black carbon fibre with jaguar-print pony, black carbon fibre with zebra-print pony, gold steel with alcantara, gold steel with jaguar-print pony and silver with alcantara. Depending on your thirst for glam, these bikes could very well be a stylish addition to a contemporary home. And well, at the very least Cavalli has shown himself to be an innovative designer. To own a piece of Cavalli luxury you’ll be out budget breaking £7,800. Worth it? We’ll let you decide.
