Spy themed half-term fun at Imperial War Museum North

This autumn half term, families won’t have to resort to playing 'I Spy', with an array of free spy themed workshops, interactive displays and highlight events to immerse visitors in the exciting world of espionage.

For anyone intrigued by the techniques, equipment and secret code used by spies this is the perfect opportunity to get some insider information, as well as learning some of the amazing real life stories of a spy during the Second World War.

A new special display In the Spotlight - A Secret Life: Odette Hallowes will reveal the story of special operations executive agent Odette Hallowes, a female spy whose incredible experiences are brought to life for the very first time in a special display.

From Saturday 24 October in the main exhibition space.

What a Performance – Spies
Discover the extraordinary story of a female spy in the Second World War’s Special Operations Executive, in this specially commissioned performance.
Monday 26, Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 28 October at 12.15am, 1.15pm, 2.15pm and 3.15pm.

Open Studio: Family Drop-In, Spies Memory Game
These drop in sessions are inspired by themes of the Cold War. Make your own memory game to test your memory skills – and your friends’ too.
Saturday 24, Sunday 25 and Monday 26 October, 12pm- 3pm in the Learning Studio.


Spies Code Wheel
In this session, create your own code wheel and write secret messages to your friends.
Thursday 29, Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October, 12pm – 3pm in the Learning Studio.

Studio Workshops: Periscope
In these workshops, young visitors can make their own spy equipment to take home and use
Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 28 October at 12.45pm, 1.45pm and 2.45pm. Ideal for ages 7+. Places are limited so arrive early to avoid disappointment.
