Jennifer Grace Cook, the LA screenwriter who came to Manchester to find a husband (click here to read the full story), has been in the city centre for just over a month now.
The lady in question caught up with herself this week to answer all the questions she’s most often asked about her rather bizarre quest to find love...
How’s your search for a husband going?
So glad you asked that, because I must clarify, I am not looking for a husband per se. I am in search of a man of noble character. I am in search of love. If I find a man who is of noble character and who I love then maybe we’ll talk marriage.
Gotcha. Any front-runners?
Actually there are lots of very interesting and handsome men here in MCR and I have witnessed quite a bit of noble behaviour but no front-runners in the love department - not just yet. It’s very early in the race though and then you can always count on a dark horse appearing.
And specifically, what kind of a man are you looking for?
Specifically, I am looking for the man who is best suited for me.
Why did you decide to come to Manchester?
Because everyone goes to London.
What do you like the most about Mancunian men?
The Mancunian strut.
What’s your astrological sign?
Typical Cancer. I love water, the moon, my home and sometimes I can be a little bit crabby.
Which of your twitter followers do you most want to meet?
You mean the ones who follow me @jenngracecook? Well, Jennifer, I would like to meet all of my followers, but if I had to pick just one, I’d have to say @mylifeyourhands and of course Yoko Ono.
Jennifer, what were you thinking, picking up and moving here from sunny Los Angeles?
Brilliant question, Jennifer. Can I get back to you on that?
Your detractors have called you a narcissist. Are you totally self-absorbed or do you just come off that way?
Personal quests lend themselves to introspection but ultimately we are all totally absorbed in our own lives, right? I just happen to be living mine in a public way.
Kind of a bold move this quest of yours. Do you feel brave?
Most of the time I feel uncertain.
How so?
Well, I’m flying by the seat of my pants here and learning as I go and I’m pretty sure I’m making mistakes. I’m sure I could do things in a smarter or better way so I don’t feel ‘brave.’ Brave is Egypt. Brave is homeless. Brave is terminal illness. I’m a very lucky woman and I have options. I feel an obligation to honour all that I have. So, I’m living my life with as much imagination as I can generate. I’m reaching for the things that I know are important in any person’s life and sharing my experience because that’s how I’m built. I’m a writer. It’s what I do. But again, I am a person and people make mistakes
Man City or Man United?
Undecided.
What do you like the most about Manchester?
The people.
What do you like the least about Manchester?
The uneven walk ways. I’m very clumsy and it’s been murder on my ankles and I’m dreading strappy stilettos when things warms up.
What’s your favourite city centre hideaway?
The Oyster Bar at the Great John Street Hotel.
Favourite bloomer in town?
Hands down, egg and chive mayo at 2nd View in Waterstone’s on Deansgate.
What’s your favourite toast that you’ve overheard in a pub?
“To Manchester, where we do what we want!”
What’s the most pretentious thing you’ve overheard at Harvey Nichols?
“The football jersey is now an artistic medium.”
Favourite date?
The one when I got locked in the ladies loo at The Castle Hotel.
Favorite moment so far on your quest?
Walking down Cross Street I witnessed a very cute guy, 20ish, tap the shoulder of a man who was standing on the corner. He was pulling that practical joke when you tap somebody’s shoulder and then quickly move away so when they turn no one is there, and this young guy, did I mention he was quite cute, pulled that prank on this perfect stranger. It was so funny to me that I just burst out with this ridiculous guffaw and the very cute guy heard me and looked at me and started laughing with me. It was just such a fun moment. I’m realising though that cute guy might have been picking that other guy’s pocket.
Most romantic moment so far?
I watched this young guy lead his blindfolded girlfriend through the lobby and to the elevator of the John Rylands Library. I’m assuming he was going to surprise her with the beauty of the third floor historic reading room. They stood waiting for the elevator, holding hands and she was giggling, totally blindfolded totally in his hands, and he leaned in and kissed her. Very sexy move. Very romantic.
Once you find the love of a noble man what will you do?
Love him back.

The Manchester strut?..........must be the way we wear our 'trolleys'.
Good lass. She's discovered the reading room on the third floor of John Rylands Library. One of Manchester's absolute gems.
