Stress head help

All stress isn’t bad. Stress can help us focus, work better or even save your life. When stress builds up though it has a negative impact and we can feel like we are panicking and losing control.

Usually an overreaction in the heat of the moment will leave you feeling embarrassed- especially if directed at another person you know. Try to realise every coin has two sides and every issue has both pros and cons.

My first tip in managing stress is to notice what sets you off.

Take a deep breath and count to ten
Taking a deep breath or two adds oxygen to your system, which almost instantly helps you relax. In addition, taking a moment to step back can help you maintain your composure, which in the long run, is what you need to work rationally through a stressful situation.

Stop and smell the roses
‘Stuff happens’ and we aren’t always happy and lucky. In these situations it’s important to count your chickens if you like and think of the things in your life that do make you happy and smile.

Sleep on it
Usually an overreaction in the heat of the moment will leave you feeling embarrassed- especially if directed at another person you know. Try to realise every coin has two sides and every issue has both pros and cons. List them both then put the list away and take a second look tomorrow. Sometimes sleeping on a situation changes can change your perception.

Know yourself
Knowing yourself and your limits may be the most important way to manage stress effectively. Give yourself the power to say ‘no’ if cooking dinner for 24 people is too much in your one bed flat. Just make sure you’re not backing out because you are a little nervous, that is very different to being overly stressed and unhappy.

Help me!
Whether you need help from your partner, work colleagues or friends, asking for the help you need is in itself a major stress management tip.
