Each To Their Own Shop Review

Where is it?

Each To Their Own

Entrance on Deansgate

7a Barton Arcade

Manchester

History:

At just 26-years-old, fashion designer Alex Christopher is not only the owner of his own self-named fashion label, but he has two thriving independent fashion boutiques called Each To Their Own in Leeds and Sheffield. The inspiration for the fashion designing came via Alex’s own wardrobe. Frustrated by the lack of individual yet affordable fashion he set about making his own. Most recently, he has set up his third boutique in Manchester’s Barton Arcade, in the former General Store unit.

What does it sell?

Vivienne Westwood and All Saints seem to be the most obvious influences. It’s largely an unconventional, funky brand with lots of misaligned collars and layered pieces that are limited edition runs - all made here in the North West.

Alex Christopher’s collections include both casual and formal day and night wear. Menswear includes limited edition printed vests and tees from £35, fine knitwear and signature drop-crotch jeans. Men’s formal wear includes tailored waistcoats, original accessories and hand-crafted footwear. Womenswear includes printed halter-neck vests and tees, fine knits, tailored dresses from £65, skirts and coats and hand-crafted leather accessories including belts and cuffs.

Who shops there?

Gary Beadle AKA Gaz from Geordie Shore is a big fan of the brand. He even did a spot of live modelling at the store’s launch party on Friday 9 September. Spot him in the photos.

Gary is representative of the type of shopper the brand will appeal to. JLS would wear it well, as would any young, trendy boy band types. The same could be said of the womenswear. With some rather daring dress designs, it’s not a brand for the fashion shy.

Why go there?

Alex has named the new Manchester shop as his flagship store and hopes the city’s shoppers will embrace it in the way he hopes. He said: “Although we originated in Sheffield, I’ve always felt that Manchester should be the home of my label and of Each To Their Own. It’s such a maverick city that does things its own way and I love that spirit, it’s exactly what we’re about – uncompromising individuality that’s accessible to anyone. My plan has been to open here since the beginning and I’m thrilled that time has come.”

Future:

Each To Their Own stores also stock garments made by the best in breakthrough young design talent hand-picked by Alex. Plans are already underway to officially launch a search across Greater Manchester for more exciting young designers looking to break through and get their designs sold in-store. Watch this space.
