A retail rundown of what’s opened and closed in the city

What’s opened

- Menswear label Nigel Hall may have shut up shop as a Selfridges concession store a while ago but you’ve not seen the back of the brand yet; a new shop is opening on Deansgate this month, in the former Starbucks unit.

- Following this male invasion on the same street, also check out dandy brands Savoy Taylors Guild and Charles Tyrwhitt, who are recent newcomers on the strip. For more feminine finds, Cath Kidston (famed for her flowery fifties themed ranges) will also be opening on Deansgate as a standalone store soon.

- New to the Northern Quarter - sort of - is Wanderland – a vintage clothing shop. The brand has existed in Afflecks Palace for a number of years but is branching out with a separate store. Click here for our review back in 2009. The new shop is in addition to the Afflecks shop, not a replacement.

- Over to the Arndale and Oasis has been playing musical chairs, so it seems. The high street chain has moved across the way to be situated next to the massively busy Topshop. Don’t blame them really. Levi’s has now expanded into Oasis’ former unit. The Entertainer – a new toy shop – has also recently opened in the Arndale, as had Boux Avenue, Theo Paphitis’ new undies venture.

- Hollister, Abercrombie’s European brand, is also rumoured to be on its way to the Arndale, as is affordable clothing chain Forever 21. Moyo is very excited about this.

- Elsewhere, CC is fairly new to St Ann’s Square with their quintessential British heritage, classic womenswear style and Fred Perry has been revamped just around the corner on Police Street. For the designer fiends among us, Calvin Klein is on its way to Spinningfields. Hurrah.

What’s closed

M Butterfly – the young, trendy, affordable high street clothing shop on Market Street - has closed down. It’s not good news for a few vintage shops up the road either. Re-wear and Best Vintage have both come to their demise in the Northern Quarter. RIP.
