Need Gloves?

Avoid frosted fingertips with wonderful winter gloves this Christmas

Need Gloves?

THERE'S nothing worse than desperately trying to tuck your hands down into the warmest fold of your coat to avoid the frostbite of a winter work morning. Ladies, it is time to invest in some gloves...

Gloves full of love: H! By Henry Holland Grey 'H! Ya' mittens from Debenhams £10

Buy them: These mittens are playful with the ‘H! Ya’ motif across the two hands and their basic grey and pink colour scheme. The fact that they’re mittens makes them warmer too - the heat between the fingers is stored and shared throughout the hand. Not to mention they’re a steal in the Debenhams sale right now for less than £10. Get your paws on them before they go.

Don’t buy them: Made from 100 per cent acrylic, they’re not built for the Arctic. If your fingers have hit the minus end of the temperature scale, these aren’t for you.

Winter warm alternative: Faux Fur Muff from Topshop £20

Buy them: This faux fur muff makes an ideal alternative to a pair of gloves. With a cord neck strap this is really an accessory in itsel - even if your hands aren’t inside. Of course gloves can be worn with it to, making it the best winter warmer of them all.

Don’t buy them: Impractical to say the least. If you are on the go, carrying bags, boxes or cases; stick to some good old fashioned gloves.

Prepare for the arctic: Miu Miu Shearling Mittens from Net A Porter £270

Buy them: These Miu Miu mittens are the epitome of festive. Their rich red colour feels perfect for the season and with 100 per cent leather and shearling, you’ll certainly feel the benefits. They have enough presence to improve any basic outfit - a lot to say for a measly mitten.

Don’t buy them: There’s no avoiding the fact that these mitts stand out. But at nearly £300 they’d have to stand out a darn site more.

Paw protection: Classic Bailey Glove from Ugg Australia £115

Buy them: Thick and wholesome, like brown bread; these gloves feel hearty with instant warmth throughout their sheepskin touch. They also come in six different natural colours so they’ll go with all your winter layers and keep you snug throughout Christmas.

Don’t buy them: For what they are and the now mass produced UGG Australia branding, they are overpriced - close to the price of their boots in fact - and will most likely fall apart with regular wear.

The Classic: Cashmere Lined Leather Gloves from Dents £52

Buy them: The original makers of handcrafted gloves in Great Britain since 1777, you don’t get more classic than this. This style is lined in cashmere for that luxurious feel and keeps the three point back on the outer leather. They look sophisticated and feminine whilst still being practical.

Don’t buy them: If you are looking for a way to express yourself, leave these in the shop. Yes a classic, but borderline boring.

The High-tech: Self-heating Electric Gloves from Maplin £12.99

Buy them: Regularly neglected are our hands. These self-heating gloves do more than treat them. For Arctic conditions, you’ve met your match.

Don’t buy them: They’re battery powered. Ridiculous and over the top for day to day English weather. No matter how cold. Put your magic gloves back on.

The Technology: Touchscreen gloves from Marks & Spencer £9.50

Buy them: Finally someone has created gloves which have a material that works with touchscreen - two small patches on the index finger and thumb. No more creeping one finger out of the glove or those annoying fingerless gloves that do nothing but get in the way. These are long awaited and genius.

Don’t buy them: If you don’t have a touchscreen phone. They are also pretty ugly.
