Paper Dress Launch, Leeds

ANOTHER vintage shop opened on New York Street in Leeds last week.  Paper Dress.  But it’s more than just another vintage shop. It’s the latest addition to the Leeds fashion community, specialising in clothing, footwear and accessories from the 1900s - 1980s.

Paper Dress was set up by Hannah Turner Voakes in 2007.  She opened her first shop in Shoreditch, London and the Leeds store on New York Street is her latest addition.

I headed straight to the shoe department (as usual) and Hannah found me pouring all over a pair of vintage Gina heels. I didn’t pick up any vintage shoes on this occasion but I did find an even greater rarity – white vintage gloves for large hands. I may have slender hands, but they’re pretty long.

What is unusual about Paper Dress Leeds is that it’s a spacious store.  The stock isn’t squashed in like most vintage stores, the space is bright, airy and well used.  Better still, it’s adjoined to a quirky hairdressers ‘Rebel Pinup’. So as well as the large fitting white vintage gloves, I also booked a hair appointment with my new hairdresser Bex.

With the Trinity Leeds shopping development on its way, a new vintage store ensures the healthy livelihood of vintage in Leeds.  Set to become a part of the vintage community in Leeds and already a part of the East London vintage community, the space is also available for hire, parties, events and exhibitions. Visit their website at www.paperdressvintage.co.uk

And those Gina heels are size 6 and available for £25 if you’re interested.
