History
Pop Boutique’s origins are in Manchester, with their first store opening in Oldham Street in 1994, following over ten years of running vintage shops and supplying others with great vintage items. They have since expanded and have six shops based in Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, London and one in Gothenburg in Sweden.
Pop prides itself on selling great affordable pieces, as well as their own vintage inspired label. They make sure everything is ethically sourced too, with many of their own designs made from recycled fabrics.
The Liverpool Whitechapel store has been open five years this September. It is right in the heart of Liverpool city centre and, like the other Pop Boutique shops, is a wonderfully quirky vintage shop with its own individual style.
What does it sell?
Pop offers a great selection of vintage clothing and accessories suitable for men and women, as well as items from their own fantastic label. They also offer some great finds for the home plus cards and gifts.
Unlike a lot of vintage ‘boutiques’ everything is affordable as well as fashionable. So whatever your price range, you are sure to find something that you love.
An added bonus of the Liverpool store, is that the first floor now hosts the fabulous Purlesque - a Liverpool based craft and yarn mini boutique. Purlesque specialises in gorgeous haberdashery as well as handmade gifts.
Who shops there?
Over the years, Pop has developed somewhat of a cult following. But don’t be fooled into thinking that alienates certain shoppers. The range of items on offer, combined with a great location and affordable prices means that Pop Boutique Liverpool has a great mix of customers looking for something different.
Why shop there?
Pop offers the layout of a regular boutique, allowing you to browse with ease. Items are displayed with like for like items (eg. dresses grouped together) and many are organised by colour - not only visually pleasing, but easy to navigate too. It’s this thorough organisation that makes Pop a must-try for those who don’t normally ‘do’ vintage.
Another great thing about Pop is that they don’t neglect the male customer (something that some vintage sellers can be guilty of). There is a great range for the vintage loving man.
And let’s not forget Purlesque upstairs. I challenge anyone to visit and not come away with at least one thing.
Future
Pop Boutique is continuing to build on their successful formula. Working with small local businesses that fit with their style is definitely the way forward. Here’s to hoping there will be some more partnerships with Pop and others in the future.
Verdict
Pop Boutique successfully manages to combine the best elements of vintage shopping in one place. Why would you go anywhere else?
