Shop Review: Black White Denim Pop-Up Shop

Where is it?

Spinningfields Square

Hardman Street

Manchester

M3 3AP

History:

Black White Denim is known for its high-end womenswear store in Wilmslow. As the name suggest, the idea is to provide simply black, white and denim clothing - offering timeless fashion that can be worn all year round.

The store is the realisation of a dream owner Jo Davies first envisaged 28 years ago, and the charismatic entrepreneur is hoping to capitalise on Christmas trading with a pop-up store in Spinningfields.

Males will find this a convenient place to shop for a gift for their wives, girlfriends or mistresses

The store looks good for a pop-up, and doesn’t feel as temporary as you may expect. Jo has kitted it out with vintage and refurbished items from the Wilmslow store, as well as her own home, along with a couple of borrows from NoChintz – the guys behind the interior design at Black White Denim.

There’s nothing she can do about the grey ribbed carpet however, which Jo admits is “truly dreadful.”

What do they sell?

All the items are from the flagship store in Wilmslow and Jo believes she’s managed to achieve a “really good representation” of what the main store offers.

The idea is to offer a stylish look for any occasion, for any time of day, and for any time of year. It’s about looking good with a minimum of effort, yet appearing as though it’s taken you three hours to get dressed.

Who shops there?

Foot traffic is rather low through The Avenue and Spinnigfields during office hours and Jo is still to be convinced that this is currently a real shopping destination.

However, she remains positive that Spinningfields will go “all-out for Christmas,” and that foot traffic will increase in the run up.

Female workers in the area may be keen to browse the store after work seeking some kind of Christmas party number. Males will find this a convenient place to shop for a gift for their wives, girlfriends or mistresses.

Why go there?

Convenience. If you work in the city and don’t venture out to Wilmslow too often, this is going to be your only chance to see the Black White Denim collection on your doorstep.

Items bought in the pop-up store can also be exchanged or refunded at the Wilmslow branch either during of after its closure.

Future:

The pop-up store will be at its Spinningfields location until the end of the year (that’s 31 December for the pedants).

Verdict

Jo Davies may have just timed this perfectly, with a bit of luck.

Fans of Black White Denim working in the city have somewhere to kill a bit of time at lunch, whilst men working in Spinningfields have got a fantastically lazy option for their significant others' Christmas gifts.
